The American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) has once again partnered with the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) to become an ambassador for its Malnutrition Awareness Week™ (MAW) September 8-12, 2025.
For the second year running, AUBMC joined 231 participating organizations from around the world to combat malnutrition. The theme this year was “United Against Malnutrition."
Malnutrition is a serious health issue that can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or body size, leading to various health complications. Early detection and timely intervention are key to prevention and treatment.
Malnutrition Awareness Week aims to educate healthcare professionals on the early detection, prevention, and treatment of malnutrition while also encouraging patients to discuss their nutrition status with their healthcare providers.
The Department of Clinical Nutrition at AUBMC collaborated actively with the Office of Communications and other healthcare professionals in order to promote the MAW. This included sharing posts on social media, displaying posters and banners in the medical center cafeteria, showing screensavers on all computers, and sending awareness-raising emails to all staff. Furthermore, all AUBMC staff received free access to malnutrition-related CE webinars and resources. Thanks to AUBMC, Lebanon was among the 61 countries whose healthcare professionals participated in the ASPEN webinars.
As part of the week's events, Clinical Dietitian Ms. Hind Dakhil Abboud delivered a presentation titled “United Against Malnutrition: Empowering Healthcare Teams to Prioritize Nutrition for Better Outcomes" on September 10, 2025 in collaboration with the Healthcare Professional Development Center (HPDC) at Halim and Aida Daniel Academic and Clinical Center (ACC). The session brought together dietitians from across the country as well as other healthcare providers.
