​Services Provided

Therapeutic includes: 

Prevention and treatment of impairments. The department is growing with its specialized staff in different areas of Physical therapy: Musculoskeletal, Neurology, Osteopathy, and Manual Therapy; Cardiopulmonary and Vestibular rehabilitation, in addition to splinting and Hand rehabilitation. All professionals are holders of a Masters' Degree (MPT) and/ or a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT). Professionals work to implement international standards of care and maintain high quality of services by continuously introducing new evidence-based methods of assessment, treatment, and innovative specialties. 

Educational 

The PTD receives physical therapy students from local and international universities to undergo a thorough practical training in different physical therapy fields on IN and Outpatient services. These students are closely mentored by our experienced and competent physical therapists The PTD has participated in and organized many seminars, workshops, and congresses on both national and international levels in different fields of physical therapy. 

Consultive

Our physical therapists deliver ergonomic consultations to national and international institutions ie schools, industries, offices, hard labors. Their recommendations contribute in preventing work related impairments and injuries and in decreasing days of absenteeism and shrinking the medical bills.


1-Cardio- Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs at AUBMC provide both cardiac patients and chronic pulmonary disease patients with, evidence-based, multidisciplinary, and comprehensive care aimed at reducing their symptoms and health care costs, and improving their functional status and health-related quality of life.

2- Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT)

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy is an exercise-based program designed to promote central nervous system compensation for inner ear deficits. Vestibular rehabilitation can help with a variety of vestibular problems, including, but not limited to: 

  • Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) 
  • Unilateral or bilateral vestibular hypofunction, (Meniere's disease, labyrinthitis, vestibular neuritis) 
  • Unilateral or bilateral vestibular hypofunction, (Meniere's disease, labyrinthitis, vestibular neuritis) 
  • Patients with unresolved inner ear disorders after medical treatment. 
  • People with acute loss of vestibular function following surgery for vestibular problems

3-Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

A physical therapy technique aiming to treat lymphedema by applying Complete decongestive therapy (CDT), also called complex decongestive therapy. It is an intensive program that combines many of the different treatment approaches including bandaging, compression garments, manual lymphatic drainage, exercises, and self-care. MLD is recommended for patients suffering from primary or secondary lymphedema related and not restricted to breast cancer, uterine and prostatic cancer, lymphoma, and melanoma as well as vascular diseases.

4- Pelvic Floor Incontinence Rehabilitation

Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation includes treatment for men and women complaining of urinary or fecal incontinence, urgency/frequency of urination, and/or pain in the pelvic region. Secondary to trauma, disease, or surgery, the pelvic floor muscles may become dysfunctional. The therapist evaluates each individual and set up a plan of care which will improve control of urination and bowel movement.

5- Musculoskeletal Diseases

They constitute the main load of patients. They include the treatment of spine related problems, sports injuries (pre and post-surgery) such as ACL reconstruction, shoulder repairs, arthroplasties, as well as rheumatological diseases.

6- Neurological Diseases

The department treats neurological impairments related to both central nervous system diseases i.e., stroke, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, and to peripheral nervous system facial palsy, diabetic neuropathy.​

7- Dry Needling

The PTD newly introduced the dry needling technic for the treatment of musculoskeletal and pain related diseases. The AUBMC physical therapists got their certifications after being trained by five American physical therapists certified and specialized in this fiend. ​

8- Hydrotherapy

In most cases, hydrotherapy helps people to feel better by relieving pain, joint stiffness and swelling. Hydrotherapy is known to be effective in chronic diseases like osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and failed back syndrome. The Physical therapy department offers individual hydrotherapy sessions in small whirlpool for upper and lower extremities and in a pool equipped with different water levels resistance​.​

9​- Hand splinting

The splint is a rigid support made of thermoplastic material, which is used to protect, support or immobilize, correct and/or enhance function an injured or inflamed hand, wrist or digits. Splints are custom made especially after surgeries and there are different type of splints: Static, Dynamic, Serial static, Static progressive ​.​


Hours of operation:

The department is open Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 am until 5:00.  During the weekend, services are provided to Inpatients only. On Saturdays from 7:30 am until 4:00 pm. On Sundays from 7:30 am until 12:30 pm.
