AUBMC Holds the Signing Ceremony of the Hamdi Al-Zaim Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Outpatient Center and the Hamdi Al-Zaim Bronchoscopy Unit

On Thursday, August 31, 2017, family members of the late Hamdi Al-Zaim, AUB President Fadlo R. Khuri, EVP/Dean Mohamed H. Sayegh, Medical Center Director and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Hassan El-Solh signed an agreement for the establishment and naming of The Hamdi Al-Zaim Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Outpatient Center and the Hamdi Al-Zaim Bronchoscopy Unit at AUBMC. In addition to family members, the signing ceremony was attended by senior staff from AUB and AUBMC.

AUBMC Director, who is a close family friend, thanked the family for their contribution. He said, “The new state-of-the-art outpatient center and unit will be designed, built, and equipped to the highest international standards, catering to routine and specialized healthcare services.”

EVP/ Dean Mohamed H. Sayegh said “Through our 2020 Vision we have been continuously seeking to provide optimal patient- and family-centered care. The establishment of such centers and units reflects the ongoing commitment to our community’s healthcare needs and steadfast dedication to enhancing human health”.

President Fadlo Khuri added, “We promise that this donation will support research - so that your support will make a difference for patients with ILD”.

Dr. Ahmad Husari, the late Hamdi Al-Zaim’s physician and family friend, welcomed the family and thanked them for “wanting to make a difference by supporting the establishment of the first Interstitial Lung Disease Center in the region”.

On behalf of the family, Dr. Saad Al-Zaim said, “With this donation, we are continuing our family’s legacy of giving. We are proud to have the late Hamdi Al-Zaim’s name associated with this center, and we promise to work together with AUBMC to make it a success.”

The Hamdi Al-Zaim Interstitial Lung Disease Outpatient Center will be dedicated for patients seeking consultative, diagnostic, and therapeutic services and will include examination clinics and a pulmonary function testing and exercise lab. It will be located in the Private Clinics at AUBMC. 

Equipped with state-of-the-art fiber-optic instruments dedicated for Bronchoscopy and Pulmonary procedures, the Hamdi Al-Zaim Bronchoscopy Unit will be located in the Endoscopy area on the fifth floor of AUBMC.
