OverviewThe nursing quality improvement is an important division to ensure safe and just culture and exemplary professional practice in the Nursing Services Department.
Scope of ServicesThe Nursing Quality Improvement scope of services includes:
- Accreditation preparedness and maintaining nursing-related standards for Joint Commission International, Lebanese Ministry of Health, and Magnet
- Patient Safety and Data Management (safety initiatives and reporting, quality indicators selection, data collection, data analysis, result dissemination, follow-up on action plans, patient safety and environmental rounds, AUBHealth audits, and monitoring nursing practices)
- Education (orientation, coaching, and delivering nursing quality and patient safety workshops) in collaboration with the Clinical and Professional Development Center
- Other activities such as departmental and unit specific performance improvement projects using FOCUS-PDCA model and other performance improvement tools such as cause-effect analysis, root-cause analysis, failure mode effects analysis, and process mapping to redesign the workflows, standards of care and practice, research...
ResourcesThe Nursing Quality Improvement division is supported by a team of expert nurses functioning as nurse quality managers that encourage clinical nurses to report near misses and incidents, recommend action steps to address areas for improvement and improve the quality of care at the unit level in collaboration with the interprofessional team, and conduct performance improvement projects on annual basis utilizing the latest evidence-based practice and innovations in the field.
Benchmarking with the United States National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators
The nurse quality managers benchmark the nursing quality indicators internally and externally with the United States National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators on quarterly basis and accordingly share the generated reports and dashboard with the nursing units for action planning and performance improvement.
